PPP Ezine Vol 1, Issue 2: Railroad by Richard Lutman

From where the ties stitch the rippled land,
Tufts of railroad men seen through cattle skulls
Drip coffee into the fade of moon.
The sweet marrow of earth
Huddled beside orange fire
Bleeds out a tawny dawn
And like a bent scarecrow the old blue signalman
Fingers out to feel the brittle morning stars,
Suddenly rises and turns to lantern.
